Regulars Life

How suggestions work

Last changed 11 October 2026. The figures on this page are the ones we use, live.

Regulars suggests people whose routines already overlap with yours, so you've probably seen each other before. Nobody can see a suggestion unless you both say yes. Here's exactly how we choose, apart from anything that would help someone misuse it.

Your routine comes first

We only suggest someone you've been at the same place with, on the same days. Before anyone is suggested:

How shared days count

Each day you were both there scores by the most specific thing you shared:

The last four weeks count in full and the four before that count half. A pair needs at least 6 points to be suggested. We'd rather suggest nobody than suggest someone you hardly cross paths with.

Then, things in common

Among the people whose routines overlap with yours about as much (within 80% of the best routine overlap you have with anyone), the ones you have more in common with come first. That means activities you both do most weeks somewhere else (a dog walk, a swim), an industry you share (if you both chose to use it), interests you share, and a similar level. Things in common never create a suggestion on their own.

Every suggestion tells you what you have in common, in general terms. We never show a score or a percentage. Work is only named when at least 5 regulars at that place share the industry; otherwise it says "Something in common away from training", and you'll see what it is once you've both said yes. Nothing ever names a time of day at an outdoor place, and an activity you both do elsewhere never says where or when.

How often

Fair to everyone

During the pilot

A single pilot gym is too small for the full figures, so at pilot places we use lower ones: at least 2 visits, a quality bar of 3 points, up to 2 a week to start, and nobody in more than 5 people's suggestions a week. We record whether the full figures would also have made each suggestion, to check they're right. None of the privacy or safety rules on this page ever change.

Staying in control

No chat

There are no messages in Regulars, so nobody can send you one. The app gives you a reason to say hello in person, then gets out of the way.

Nobody sees a no

If you say no to a suggestion or a friend request, or don't answer, the other person is never told. A suggestion nobody answered and one somebody declined look the same.

Nobody sees when you're there

Nobody ever sees your exact times. Suggestions say what you have in common without naming you, and when you've both said yes you see roughly when you've both been there, like "on Thursday evenings": only times you were both there, and only the day at outdoor places. You can switch the time of day off in Settings, under Visibility; then it says just the day, for both of you. Connections and friends see that you're at the same place only while you're both checked in there.

Blocking

You can block anyone you know through Regulars: someone you were introduced to, a connection or a friend. It's absolute: you'll never be suggested to each other or see each other in the app again, and they aren't told.

Reporting a concern

You can report anyone you know through Regulars. A person reads every report; the person you reported is never told, and never told who. Reporting blocks them too, unless you choose not to. A serious report, or reports from two different people, pauses their suggestions while we look. We can close an account. If you're in danger, call 999. Anything that happens in a gym or club is also for its own staff and rules.

What we never use

You can see everything used for your suggestions in the app, under My data, and switch each part off, or turn suggestions off altogether.
